Welcome to Alkio College

Alkio College is, according to its functioning principle, a high standard learning environment, in which students like you are encouraged to seek knowledge and increase their social and global awareness.

The main activity of the college is the multitude of study programs conducted in the spirit of free education. They last for the entire Winter season and attract some two hundred eager young students year after year to Alkio College, situated on the scenic shore of Lake Päijänne, at Korpilahti in Central Finland.

A year at Alkio College is not a gap year. It certainly is a good chance for you to pause and consider the opportunities in front of you, search for your personal strengths and assets and to meet people who will become lifelong friends. But besides this, it is also a chance for studying effectively, developing your learning skills and preparing for entrance exams.

In many ways, studying at Alkio College is a path to university. During a year at Alkio, it is possible to do as much university studies as you would do at a university, which gives you a solid foundation for further university studies as well as the entrance exams.

We have gained excellent results in recent years. Our working method - close collaboration between you and the college staff - is effective both in quantity and quality. Students have been especially pleased with our efficient and encouraging study counseling system.

Our reasonable fee, which you can also apply for financial aid, consists of the tuition, meals and residential accommodation. Studying in a close-knit community is rewarding, and this community is a safe place to try your wings, to learn to live away from home. You can use the facilities for studying and recreational activities from early morning to late evening hours.

Alkio College is also opening its doors to the world, with student exchange programmes and intercultural and international co-operation with many people of different ethnic background. It is a learning center with a social focus, which also embraces multiple values. There is a cosy atmosphere, which truly enhances our students' overall growth - as a student and as a human being.
